Hillsborough Fire Rescue crews responded to the Citrus Park-area home in the 1200 block of Palmdale Court around 3 a.m. after flames broke out in the two-story home.

According to officials, the woman woke up to a smoke detector going off and flames on the second floor of the home. The woman and the dog managed to escape without injury.

The home was gutted by the fire.

It is too early to know what started the fire but firefighters could be seen digging in to what appears to be one of the upstairs walls as they searched for a cause.

Investigators are expected to be in scene for several hours.

At the same time the woman that lives here, will at least temporarily, be looking for a new place to stay.
