TAMPA, Fla. — A Tampa family is desperate for answers.

  • Tampa native missing in Costa Rica
  • Family members say they haven't spoken with Carla Stefaniak in days
  • Costa Rican officials, FBI searching
  • Carla Stefaniak gofundme page

They are seeking 36-year-old Carla Stefaniak, who went missing while on a trip to Costa Rica.

According to family members, Stefaniak was celebrating her birthday in the country with her sister-in-law, who flew back to the U.S. earlier this week.

Stefaniak, who now lives in Broward County, had planned to fly back on Nov. 28 but has not been seen or heard from since Tuesday.

Her family said they last spoke with her Tuesday afternoon when she was at her Air bnb residence. Stefaniak told relatives it was raining crazy and the power went out. She continued with "its pretty sketchy here."

Stefaniak's family has started a gofundme page to aid in the search for her.

Costa Rica's Judicial Investigation Agency (OIJ) is now sharing her picture and hoping to get leads on the case. Also, the US Embassy in Costa Rica and the FBI have been notified.
