NEW YORK -- Colin Kroll, the co-founder of the popular HQ Trivia app, has died at the age of 35.

Kroll was found dead in his Manhattan apartment early Sunday, according to the New York Police Department. Officers went to Kroll's apartment after receiving a call from someone who asked police to check on him. He was found unresponsive on his bed and pronounced dead at the scene.

"We learned today of the passing of our friend and founder, Colin Kroll, and it's with deep sadness that we say goodbye," HQ Trivia said in a statement. "Our thoughts go out to his family, friends and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time."

Kroll was also the chief executive of the trivia app, which live-streams trivia shows. Before creating HQ Trivia, Kroll co-founded the Vine app, which allowed users to create six-second videos. The app was sold to Twitter in 2012 and shut down in 2017.
