PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. — A fatal multi-vehicle crash overnight has shut down Starkey Road at Magnolia Drive in Seminole.

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the crash that occurred around 3 a.m.  Troopers said a 56-year-old man was killed in the crash and two others were seriously injured.

According to FHP, a Dodge Challenger traveling southbound on Starkey Road turned into the path of a pickup truck at the intersection of Magnolia Drive. Both vehicles collided head-on, causing the truck to travel off the roadway and hit a concrete bus bench before crashing into a street sign, a wooden privacy fence, and a utility pole.

Troopers said the driver of the Dodge, Robert Fournier, was transported to St. Petersburg General Hospital where he died from his injuries.

The 50-year-old male driver of the truck suffered critical injuries and the 47-year-old male passenger received serious injuries. Both were transported to Bayfront Medical Center.

According to the report, they both appeared to be under the influence of alcohol.

Troopers did say the foggy weather did not play a factor in the crash, but that speeding did.

No word on when the road will reopen.
