RUSKIN, Fla. — Patients fighting to smoke medical cannabis legal are calling Governor Ron DeSantis's announcement Thursday that the state will no longer fight efforts to allow medical marijuana to be smoked a step in the right direction.

One of those patients, Cathy Jordan, told us she was happy to hear DeSantis was on board with dropping the state's smokable medical marijuana ban.

Diagnosed with ALS more than 30 years ago, Jordan says smoking cannabis saved her life, and she's been fighting for decades to smoke it legally.

Jordan is one of a number of patients involved in a lawsuit against the state for the ban on smoking medical cannabis. DeSantis called for a stay on that lawsuit as part of his announcement.
