HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. — Hillsborough County voters passed a penny tax for the "All For Transportation" (AFT) referendum in November 2018.

Earlier this month, a county commissioner sued to stop the tax, and AFT countersued to have the first lawsuit thrown out.

But all that legal wrangling is not why that tax money is not at work yet on various transportation projects around the county.

Rather, the money has to take a bit of a journey before it reaches the county and AFT. Even then, once that circuit through Tallahassee and back is complete, at least one more legislative step will be necessary for county government to start using the funds.
