Palmetto Police Department officers responded to a home on 17th Avenue West around 1 a.m. in response to a potential assault and shooting.

Upon arrival, police found Stephanie McNabb, 41, semi-conscious and with multiple gunshot wounds.

Police officers also say they found four other adults, an infant, and a 2-year-old living in the same home. One of the adults, Thomas Bell, 26, reportedly had a laceration to their head but did not need medical attention.

Although McNabb was transported to Blake Medical Center, she was pronounced dead.

According to investigators, Flozell Murrell III, 41, forced his way into the Palmetto home. He reportedly was previously in a relationship with McNabb and does not live at the home.

When inside, police say Murrell shot McNabb and then shot at Bell. While Murrell and Bell struggled, Murrell eventually broke free and fled from the scene.

Murrell was later found by police and was taken into custody. He is charged with first-degree murder, attempted murder, burglary, assault, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
