TAMPA, Fla. — A Tampa man was arrested after a fatal fiery crash Saturday night. 

  • Driver arrested in fatal fiery crash
  • Nicholas Schreiber charged with DUI
  • Passenger of Jeep killed in crash

The crash occurred at S Westshore Boulevard and W Montgomery Avenue at about 8:36 p.m.

Police said a Jeep Grand Cherokee was speeding when it tried to overtake another vehicle.  The Jeep then struck the raised median and several trees before crossing over into the southbound lanes and hitting a Toyota Camry head on. 

After the crash, both vehicles caught fire and became fully engulfed in flames.  Police said the passenger of the Jeep died at the scene.  

The driver of the Camry suffered minor injuries. 

Police said the driver of the Jeep, Nicholas Schreiber, 24, showed signs of impairment and made spontaneous statements about drinking. 

Schreiber was charged with DUI manslaughter, vehicular homicide, and DUI property damage.
