The Health Department confirmed the positive test in a worker employed at Sandpiper Grille, located at 1702 S. Pebble Beach Boulevard, on March 30, the agency said in a news release.

Investigators learned the infected worker handled food as a normal part of their duties, and that food-handling practices at the restaurant could have exposed patrons.

The department is now recommending a hepatitis A vaccination for anyone who ate or drank at Sandpiper Grille between March 20-24.

Anyone who was already vaccinated doesn't need to get another, officials said.

Vaccinations will be offered weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Sulphur Springs Health Complex at 8605 Mitchell Ave. in Tampa. On Saturday, a special vaccination clinic will be set up at the Joyce Ely Health Center at 205 14th Avenue, S.E. in Ruskin between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.

This is the latest positive case of hepatitis A identified in a Bay area food service worker. Late in 2018, positive cases were identified in food service workers at restaurants in Hernando, Hillsborough, and Pinellas counties.

A hotline has been set up for those with questions; call 813-307-8004.
