SARSOTA, Fla. — A 9-year-old boy was struck and killed Monday morning while riding his bicycle to school.

  • Incident happened Monday morning at Sarasota intersection
  • Boy was taken to hospital, died from injuries
  • Intersection will be shut down for hours

According to Ken Watson with the Florida Highway Patrol, the accident happened just before 7:50 a.m. at the intersection of Webber Street and Nodosa Drive in Sarasota.

The boy, identified as Roman Miller, and his sister were riding their bicycles west on Webber Street when the driver of a black Chevy Silverado attempted to take a left turn from Nodosa Drive and struck the boy, according to FHP.

The siblings were on their way to Brentwood Elementary School, where the victim was a third-grade student. 

The 9-year-old was rushed to Doctor's Hospital where he passed away less than an hour later.

The boy's sister was not injured.

The Superintendent is at Brentwood Elementary meeting with staff and students.  Grief counselors will also be on hand at the school throughout the week for students and staff to talk to. 

Officials say the intersection of Webber Street and Nodosa Drive will be shut down through the early afternoon hours. ​
