ST. PETE BEACH, Fla. — A bomb squad responded to the Don Cesar Hotel Friday morning to reports of a grenade found near the property.

  • Deputies responded at 11:30 a.m. 
  • Device was training grenade that couldn't explode

According to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office, deputies were called to the hotel, located at 3400 Gulf Boulevard in St. Pete Beach just after 11:30 a.m. 

The initial report indicated what appeared to be a grenade was found in bushes on the east side of the hotel property.

Police later said it was an old training grenade that didn't have the capacity to go live.

There was no threat to anyone, police said. 

Casablanca Avenue was closed to vehicle and pedestrian traffic from the Pinellas Bayway to West Maritana Drive while police investigated. 

Deputies are still working to figure out how the grenade got there.
