TAMPA, Fla. — It has now been eight months since Edward Taylor, Jr., was beaten and killed outside Envy Gentlemen's Club in Tampa, and his parents are still looking for justice.

"He was someone's dad. He was someone's son,” said Vanessa Ross-Taylor, Taylor's mother.

They are hoping to find justice in the form of $15,000, according to a lawsuit filed against the club on Tuesday.

The complaint states Taylor's accused killer, Ismael Ocasio, was permitted into the club with a deadly weapon and that the club "did not have any security measures to protect its patrons at the time of the incident."

"He was a human being and he deserved better. And had they had security, I think my son would still be here with us," said Ross-Taylor.

Lawyer Greg Francis says Ocasio and Taylor got into an argument when Taylor was carrying purses for the women he was with and there was a misunderstanding over whose purse he had.

Francis says the argument began in the club, but spilled out into the parking lot. But club employees have a different version of events.

"Nothing really happened at all here. Not an altercation or anything. Police came in and picked up the video, and it shows nothing because there was nothing," said Gene Osteen, whose daughter owns the club.

He says they have security inside the bar every night, but this fight happened outside the Papa John's up the street.

"We didn't need any security because nothing happened. The guy left. There was nothing, no altercation, no conversation or anything here," said Osteen.

Osteen says they are not aware of any lawsuit.

Taylor's family, however, says they just want to make sure this doesn't happen to anyone else.
