Just days after Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg completed treatment for pancreatic cancer, she paid a trip to Western New York and was awarded an honorary doctoral law degree at the University at Buffalo.

Former President Bill Clinton appointed Ginsburg in 1993. She's been serving on the high court for 26 years. The 86-year-old spoke on the strides women have made in law, and how she was the only woman in class during her law school days.

"It was exhilarating to help bring down the barrier and boundaries that, in Justice Brennan's words, that put women less on a pedestal than in a cage,” Ginsburg said. “True we have not reached nirvana, but the progress I have seen in my lifetime makes me optimistic."

Ginsburg will be at Kleinhans Music Hall Monday night at a gathering for the law community. Seating has already sold out, but you can still get tickets to stream the event.
