TAMPA, Fla. — The Kiwanis group in Tampa is holding their 50th annual fund raiser barbecue on Thursday.

This event is in partnership with Metropolitan Ministries, a non-profit Christian group located in downtown Tampa.

Volunteers arrived at around 2 a.m. to set up.

“It’s really amazing,” says Tom Gordin, President of the Tampa Kiwanis Club.

Organizers say there are around 7,200 pieces of chicken that need to be cooked for the fund raiser.

The boxed lunches will be packed, and shipped to dozens of locations around Tampa.

Organizers estimate this will bring in over $40,000 to fund outreach programs.

"All the money we get, will go to giving back to our community," says Gordin. "The funds will help with our early childhood education classes, and building wheelchair ramps for our disabled."
