HAINES CITY, Fla. — Feltrim Group is celebrating the grand opening of its Feltrim Sports Village Friday. The sports village is located at the group's Balmoral Resort in Haines City.

The $4 million facility will host football, soccer, lacrosse and sand volleyball games as well as soccer camps for local and international players.

"I'm hoping with this sports village here to be able to take camps in from China, camps in from Brazil and they will play local teams here in Florida. So that's the idea behind the sports village," said Garrett Kenny, the owner of Feltrim Group.

With 170 vacation homes surrounding the sports village, he said his property is a game changer for sports teams.

"A lot of different people have different sports fields in different locations. The one ace we have in our sleeve, is we've got a bar and restaurant on site. We've got accommodation. So when these groups come here, they're able to stay and play all in one location."

Kenny has more plans for the front of the property, which faces the Highway 27 thoroughfare. He plans to build a charter school for local students and an indoor sports arena.

"I'm not trying to build an international school like some people have said. This will be a charter school for Polk County and Haines City local children," Kenny said.

According to Kenny, the indoor sports arena will be 65,000 square feet, housing six indoor volleyball courts and two NBA sized basketball courts. Kenny is also exploring having e-sports tournaments there too.

The school and sports arena are expected to open in August of 2021.

An event center is also being built on property, and expected to open in May of 2020. It will host wedding receptions, banquets and business meetings, as well as the Feltrim Group offices on the second level.

A ribbon cutting will be held Friday at 3:30 p.m. at 204 Macaulay's Cove.
