PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. — The Pinellas County School Board is meeting to discuss construction on Tyrone Middle School.  The plan is for the school to get a $28 million renovation.

Here are a few things to know about the project:

1. Goal: Construction will start in December and the principal said the outward appearance of the school will finally match what's happening inside the classrooms.

"The new facility is planned to be state of the art, innovation in style, look, and appearance," Tyrone Middle Principal Robin Mobley said.

2. Features: There will be a new innovation center for the school's digital learning, new classrooms, cafeteria, offices, art room, band room, and upgrades to the gym — all vasts improvements compared to the current buildings at this 60-year-old school.

Mobley said considering the school's innovation and digital learning program, having a state of the art facility is crucial.

"As the center for innovation and digital learning, it’s an amazing experience and opportunity for the building and facilities to be one that is state of the art innovative looking, so it matches the desires and hopes and vision of those who will choose to come to this school," Mobley said.

3. Timeline: The construction will be done in two phases with limited disruptions to students. The new buildings are expected to be open by Fall 2022.
