HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. -- It was a marriage proposal you can sum up with one word: “Excellent.”

Travis Welborn thought he was just going to see the new “Bill and Ted” movie at the Escape Theater in Riverview.

But as the movie was about to start, a special video played on screen: It showed actor Alex Winter, who plays Bill, along with the film’s writer, Ed Solomon.

“Check your notes on this one,” Solomon says to Winter in the video. “Look who we’re talking to. Travis?”

“My name comes up and I’m thinking that’s weird,” Travis said, who was sitting there with his partner, Domonic Botto.

Then on screen, Winter says “Domonic has a question Travis apparently!”

That’s when Travis turned to see Domonic get down on one knee to cheers and applause from family and friends in the theater.

“Will you go on this most excellent adventure with me?” Domonic asked.

Travis of course said yes.

“It was definitely a surprise,” he said.

Domonic says it all came together when he emailed Solomon, who wrote the original Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure and its sequels.

Solomon actually wrote him right back. Domonic then wrote them up a script and the video was made and sent to the theater. He got to see it before the big moment.

“When I got the video and heard Travis’ name come out of Alex Winter’s mouth for the first time, I was crying,” Domonic said. “He had no idea because he was in another room, having no clue this was going on. So it was just a shock to me. I was so happy that both of them wanted to be involved for their fans.”

It turns out the two are huge “Bill and Ted” fans, even dressing up as them for Halloween several times.

The video of the proposal has been going around on social media, giving “excellent” fans everywhere a chance to celebrate.

“I’m glad people were getting to celebrate with us, especially during a time like this,” Domonic said.

The first Bill and Ted movie came out in 1989. The third one came out in late August, which the couple says was great timing for their engagement.
