ORLANDO, Fla. — A 19-year-old man was arrested in connection to a shooting outside the Mall at Millenia on Thursday night, Orlando Police say.

What You Need To Know

  • The shooting happened at about 6 p.m. Thursday at Mall at Millenia

  • Investigators later determined shooting happened outside, at food court entrance

  • Four people were taken into custody after the incident; 1 man charged so far

Trey’von Jaheim Graham has been charged with attempted first-degree murder with a firearm and discharging a firearm in public, police said Friday.

The mall was evacuated after police responded to reports of shots fired. The Orlando Police Department said there were no injuries in the shooting.

Initially, police said the shooting took place inside the mall, in the food court, but after further investigation, officers determined that it happened outside, at the entrance to the food court.

"Extra-duty officers were inside and responded immediately," OPD said on its Twitter feed. "Several subjects (were) detained safely. No officers deployed any weapons."

Investigators later said a total of four people were taken into custody.

Deputy Chief Eric Smith said when officers heard the shooting, they jumped into action.

"Officers inside of the mall heard the gunshots (and) responded right away -- responded to training, engaged the suspect and took them down without incident," he said.

Investigators on Friday were still trying to determine how many shooters there were and how many shots were fired Thursday night.

Smith said the shooting was an uncommon occurrence in the area of the mall.

"It's a very safe place to come to, it's a very safe place to be," he said. "Hopefully this is an isolated incident, and, like I said, we do have officers inside the mall keeping everybody safe."

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
