Long-term care residents will be among the first to be vaccinated in the state of Florida. Spectrum Bay News 9’s Cait McVey sat down with three residents of Grand Villa of St. Petersburg for a conversation about the COVID-19 vaccine.

Cait McVey: “When you heard this group was going to be first, what were your thoughts?”

Susan Carter: “At first I was a little leery. You know its seems to be developed so fast and when you think about in the past how long it’s taken to develop vaccines.”

Cait McVey: “So that gave you pause?”

Susan Carter: “Yes it did. But then I decided lets get this show on the road.”

Cait McVey: “Did you feel the same way as Susan, a little leery at first?”

David Gorsen:  “No not really.  They’ve done this before.  They have the science. It will go away and it won’t come back.”

Cait McVey: “Carole, when you hear David talking about being ready the minute it was announced, did you feel the same way?  Were you ready?”

Carole Chapple: “Yes I assume that it’s safe. But I think we should be the last people to get it. Not the first. Younger people should get it first.”

Cait McVey: “That’s very selfless. You all are so vulnerable.”

Carole Chapple: “It’s not selfless, it’s the way it should be. I mean I’m 86 years old how much time do I have left.  I’ve had a good life.  If I get it, I get it.”
