TAMPA, Fla. — It was a smooth opening day for Tampa's federal coronavirus vaccination site at the Greyhound track on Monday.

The site is offering appointment scheduled and walk-up visits, and is equipped to vaccinate 2,000 per day, or more than two people every minute the site is open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., 7 days a week.

As federal vaccine sites come online in Florida, state officials say it will help speed along the vaccination process.

Johnson & Johnson is now shipping its one dose coronavirus vaccine, which Florida could see 175,000 of by the end of this week.

And the state and federal government is quickly expanding its vaccination reach to private pharmacies across the state.

Florida is now including Walgreens locations, and already has vaccine sites established CVS pharmacies and Publix.

Governor Ron DeSantis talked about how expanding vaccine locations to private pharmacies, to even small clusters of locations, can make big impact.

"In each store they can do 50 or 100 shots in each store," Gov. DeSantis said.  "So you take 67 stores, that really makes an impact. And so, those doses are coming from the federal pharmacy program and I think that is a huge game changer."

It appears teachers are also getting some good news about vaccines this week in Florida.

CVS is now allowing teachers and day care workers under the age of 50 to schedule appointments for the coronavirus vaccine.

CVS is working from a stock-pile of federal vaccines, and the Biden Administration has urged states to vaccinate all teachers and day care workers, regardless of age.

The State of Florida is currently only allowing teachers and day care workers 50 years old and up to one vaccinated.
