World War II veterans Sergeant Calvin Corey and Sergeant Maurice Lanouette were this year's honorees.

“I think it’s terrific," Corey said. "I told my family about it and they are here.”

Both gentlemen, now in their late 90s were greeted by their old military portraits remembering the time they served.

“At that time I was 19 but today is a little different story," Corey said. "We were at a restaurant with four or five other guys with me and we were at a restaurant having a sandwich.”

While he joked about how long ago his picture was taken, Lanoutte reminisced about his.

“The hotel was Beacon hotel, I still remember the hotel,” he said.

It’s memories like those and the bravery and sacrifice of the thousands who fought for this country that brought hundreds out on the windy November morning.

“It’s an honor to be here with all the other people, other veterans and the people who put this thing together for us,” Lanoutte said.

Corey added, “It’s nice to have something at the end of your life that is so terrific.”

Dignitaries from MacDill Air Force Base, local officials, and law enforcement also joined in for this special celebration.
