TAMPA, Fla. – Between a major recall in February, and supply chain production slow downs, some types of baby formula are becoming nearly impossible for parents and caregivers to find.

What You Need To Know

  • Special kinds of baby formula are becoming more difficult to find

  • Kennedy Cares Tampa Bay is working to help connect formula with families in need

  • The group is always looking for donations

“I have families calling and telling us they have two bottles left, and they don’t know where to get anymore,” co-founder of the nonprofit Kennedy Cares Tampa Bay Sandy Parlett told Spectrum News.

For eight years, she’s been helping families in need, but lately she says one of the biggest struggles is finding baby formula.

“Just recently, I met a mom that was in Lakeland and she couldn’t find any in Lakeland, we met her here at eight o’clock at night, just to give her two cans to get by till she can get to her pediatrician and WIC to see what they can do to change the baby’s formula,” she said.

Sandy says right now, about ten people per week ask for help finding formula. “It’s nowhere. Without you guys we wouldn’t have it,” grandmother Rebecca Perez said about the group. She needs to find a special kind of formula for her grandkids.

“It’s just not recommended to switch formula just because it’s available. It’s not the right thing to do,” Perez continued.

She was able to get in contact with Sandy, and got her daughter some help.

“We’ve traveled to many many stores, counties, we’re talking to other people all over the place,” Perez said.

While major retailers struggle to get specialty brands of formula back on their shelves, for Sandy and her nonprofit, it’s just another day of serving the community.

Kennedy Cares Tampa Bay is looking for a permanent location and is always accepting donations.

They accept baby essentials along with household items for families in need.
