And over the decades she has given new definition to the word “volunteer.”

Here’s a few of the organizations she volunteers for: Youth softball league, Plant City Christmas parade committee, Strawberry Festival, YMCA board, unity in the community organization.

Also, she has been active with the Kiwanis Club for 15 years.

“I’ve been the president of my Kiwanis Club here in Plant City twice,” moody said.  “I’ve been the vice president, the treasurer, I’ve been the lieutenant governor.”

The list goes on including her latest Kiwanis honor. Her term for Kiwanis Florida District Governor runs until the end of next September.

She also began the monthly cops and kids reading together program.

Almost twenty years ago, Moody founded the Plant City Black Heritage celebration whose mission, in part, is to provide a cultural history to celebrate those who have in years past and are today carrying the torch in the search for equality and justice.

The organization sponsors a summer reading program, feeds the homeless, awards scholarships and much, much more.

Like her parents and grandparents, Moody is Plant City born and raised and as long as she can she will serve.

And yes, she does find some time to sleep.

“I’ve been volunteering in my community for almost 40 years,” she said.  “It’s just something in me. It’s just a passion. I’m driven to do what I do and I just love it.”
