For Luis Ceballos, it’s been a constant struggle.

“If I didn’t have this place, I’d have to move to a different state," he said. "You can’t afford to live in Florida right now with all the prices, its really high."

Ceballos said he works hard to make a living as a personal shopper at Walmart.

“It’s not that small," he said of the apartment he shares with his mom. "It looks small, but it’s not small."

Ceballos said he left Miami with his mother to escape the high costs of living, but when they arrived in Bradenton two years ago, they found themselves in the same spot again.

After a while, they found a place with One Stop Housing at Robins Apartments in Bradenton, paying only $775 a month.

“For us, it’s everything," he said. "Because right now, this is the only place we have right now to live, and the amazing — the prices and everything is really good. We are really grateful to live here."

Mark Vengroff is the managing partner at One Stop Housing, a company created to provide workforce housing at affordable rates. He says this year has been the company's busiest, because housing costs have gone through the roof.

“Its more than 100 phone calls every day for the most part who are qualified individuals who all have a job and can’t afford anywhere to live,” he said.

Vengroff said the situation is also affecting local employers.

“By far, all them — I mean all of them — have said they are having a challenging time recruiting and retaining employees,” he said.

That's why One Stop Housing is providing an affordable home people for working people like Ceballos.

“It’s close to everything — they have shopping centers here, the shopping, I love it," he said. "That’s the reason why I love it so much."

Ceballos is studying to get his real estate license so he can make more money and afford a better life.

“I think it’s a good opportunity right now to start to invest with people in real estate," he said. "That’s why I want to be a Realtor."

Turning one page at a time, Ceballos said he’s working hard to live life to the fullest.

One stop housing is currently building a 182 workforce housing units on a 5-acre plot of land next to Robins Apartments in Bradenton.
