Emily Nipps, Spokesperson for Tampa International, says while the passenger count will be high for Thanksgiving travel, they won’t reach the same levels they did in 2021 because fewer flights are scheduled.

“We’re not going to see a record number of passengers,” Nipps explained. “Actually, last year we saw a record number of passengers during Thanksgiving. We’re seeing slightly less traffic this year. A lot of that is because the airlines actually cut their schedules and made them more resilient to any sort of staffing changes that might happen.”

The airport is expecting 70,000 passengers each day over the next week, which is an increase from the roughly 55,000 they see during a typical weekday.

Tips for seamless travel from Tampa International Airport:

Plan ahead for parking: The airport offers online booking which will reserve you a spot should parking reach capacity.

Avoid circling: If you pick someone up at the airport, they recommend you use the Cell Phone Waiting Lot to reduce the amount of traffic.

Arrive early: Holiday crowds can cause delays at TSA screening checkpoints and on the trams.

Check your pockets: Thanksgiving treats often get confiscated at TSA. Remember, you can’t fly with jams and jellies, cranberry sauce, gravy, or bottles of wine.
