TARPON SPRINGS, Fla — This is a busy week at Mr. Souvlaki Restaurant. It's been serving visitors and residents of Tarpon Springs for the last 30 years. 23 of those years have been under the motherly eye of Owner, Ellie Kikis.

What You Need To Know

  • The famous establishment has been around for decades

  • The owner spoke to Bay News 9 about the upcoming Epiphany celebration

  • Their signature dish is Greek chow mein

“All my life I feel like I’ve been in the restaurant business," she said. “Since I was a little girl back in Greece.”

It’s been a difficult couple of years with the pandemic, so business owners like Ellie are excited about celebrating the Epiphany in grand style this year.

“We feel like we’re ready for this every year," she said. “We’ve been waiting for this every year.”

Hours in the kitchen or spent preparing for the crowds to come. Ellie says people will be looking for authentic Greek cuisine at Mr. Souvlaki. That’s a taste of the famous Greek Chow Mein.

“It’s rice, with sauteed onions and green peppers with chicken, some feta cheese with red sauce.” For Ellie, this restaurant and the Epiphany are so much more than food. It’s about faith and it’s about family.

“This place now is empty," she said. “That day it’s gonna be full of people and they all come here happy and smiling. That whole thing, it’s a beautiful experience and a beautiful day. Tarpon Springs is a beautiful town. It has the charm and the people. I feel like I know everybody here 3:00 and it’s true, I think I know everybody.”

That’s an epiphany the Tarpon Springs community celebrates every day of the year.
