Robert Magee says he sees a lot of crashes at Belcher and 118th Ave North.

“This intersection is one I come through every single day,” Magee said. “I’ve seen a pattern of some pretty nasty accidents that have closed down the street, made it difficult for people to drive through.”

Magee works nearby and crosses through the intersection daily. He thinks the traffic lights could be timed better.

Often, he says drivers trying to turn on Belcher Road are rushing through the intersection and might not see oncoming traffic.

“There’s a lot going on in the morning, and it doesn’t seem to be set up that well to get across safely,” Magee said.

Spectrum News asked Pinellas County about the issue. The Transportation Division said it’s a busy intersection that they have looked into before.

They are now going to pull recent crash reports to see if any changes should be made.

Pinellas County spokesman Tony Fabrizio said in an email that “the county continues to make investments in intelligent traffic systems to make roadways as safe and efficient as possible.”

Magee hopes something can be done at Belcher and 118th.

“Safety is the ultimate concern and I’d hate to see anyone get hurt,” Magee said. “If we can do something to make it better, we’d love that.”
