WASHINGTON, DC - 135,810 pounds of fully cooked chicken products are being recalled by Tip Top Poultry, Inc. because of possible Listeria contamination.

  • Recalled items have the number P-17453
  • Shipped to hotels, restaurants and institutions nationwide
  • Problem discovered August 17, 2019 by Canadian Food Inspection Agency when sample tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes

The frozen, diced, ready-to-eat poultry was produced January 21, 2019 and has "PACK DATE 01/21/19" on the labels.  Tip Top Poultry packages the chicken under various names.  The full list of products is below.

Eating food contaminated with L. monocytogenes can cause listeriousis, an infection that mostly affects the elderly, those with weakened immune systems and preganant women and their newborns.

Listeriosis can cause fever, muscle aches, headaches, still neck, confusion, loss of balance and convulsions. Listeriosis is treated with antibiotics.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) is concerned the chicken may be sitting in some institutional freezers. Anyone who bought this chicken should not serve it and should throw it away or return it to where you bought it immediately.
