Located in the beautiful Florida Keys in the village of Islamorada you'll find the History of Diving Museum right off the Overseas Highway thoroughfare. The folks at the museum are dedicated to collecting, preserving, displaying, and interpreting artifacts, antiques, books, documents, photographs and oral history relative to the history of diving. They tell the international story of man’s attempts to explore, understand, and venture under the sea. They also celebrate the special role that South Florida and the Florida Keys played in this story.

One of the most prominent displays within the museum is called the Parade of Nations, and rightly so. This impressive gallery illustrates the international scope of the museum’s collection which includes many of the most precious helmets from the world’s largest collection. The best diving creations from 24 nations are compared side by side in this unique exhibit where 45 rare helmets float in a back-lit semi-circle. The display is also interactive. Visitors are able to press a button on the exhibit and listen to a narrator talk about the history and significance of each helmet.

Many of the exhibits at the museum are interactive and make it easy to really immerse yourself in the time line that follows the progression of diving from it's inception all the way to modernity. It's an exciting and interesting place to visit for all ages when down in the Florida Keys.

The museum is open from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily except om Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years Day when they are closed.
