The tee box in professional golf, the pros focused, the fans quiet, waiting for contact. We see it on television every week.

Now imagine a golf event where the fans are loud and the music is even louder as these pros launch balls distances like you have never seen before.

Welcome to the World Long Drive Tour.

Kevin Shook of Bradenton has been a member of this wildly popular made-for-TV tour for more than ten years, winning ten tournaments over that time.

"I was god-awful when I first started, it was horrible," admitted Shook.  "I knew I could hit it hard and far, but I’ve never hit a 400 yard drive, but I didn’t know growing up and playing golf in Florida, the ball doesn’t go far here.”

The Manatee High School grad played three sports growing up, but didn’t catch the golf bug until the age of 24. Then one day playing in a charity tournament for a friend who had passed away, Kevin and his group came up to the long drive hole.

Standing on the tee box were two members of the World Long Drive Tour to hit drives for his group. One of Kevin's friends spoke up and boasted that Kevin would out-drive both of them... and he did. It was the beggining of a career on the long drive tour.

At 6’4", 225 pounds, Kevin is generating a swing speed of up to 145 miles per hour, producing a ball speed at well over 200 miles per hour. Combined, it can lead to distances of over 400 yards off the tee, well above the rate of a PGA tour player.

Kevin's longest drive in competition is 475 yards, and at 41-years-old, Shook hopes to compete on the Senior World Long Drive Tour when he turns 45. His goal is to become the first golfer to win world championships in both the Senior and the regular World Long Drive.

In September, Kevin will be competing in his 11th World Long Drive Championship, looking for his first title.
