TAMPA, FL. - The 95.3 WDAE studio in South Tampa has gone silent due to the Coronavirus Pandemic. But the airwaves are as a loud as ever.

At a time when the sports world has stood still, the DAE personalities have raised their game for fans. From live-streaming shows on Facebook, playing the Rays’ 2020 season schedule on PS4 each day via Twitch, to simply taking calls from listeners dealing with this time of COVID-19.

“We’re wanting to know what they’re going through, they’re wanting to know what we’re going through,” said Ronnie Lane, co-host of the “Ronnie and T-Kras Show” weekdays 6-9AM. “So we share some of our personal experiences of, for instance, working from home.”

“Just being there for the listener each and every day, I know a lot of people unfortunately losing their jobs,” said Tom Krasniqi, co-host of the “Ronnie and T-Kras Show. “They are kind of shut in their homes, and they’re gravitating to the radio now, the stats prove it.

With more people tuning in, the conversation isn’t just about sports, but life in general. And the DAE jocks are working to walk that line of having fun but also being serious.

“It is a balance to make sure we’re respectful of what is going on but at the same time we have to try to have fun or everyone is going to be bummed out because we all kind of are and its about being together and finding ways to not be bummed out together,” said Pat Donovan, co-host of the “Pat and Aaron Show, weekdays noon-3pm.

DAE is also providing an outlet for businesses to connect with listeners.

“Every day at 5:45pm we are reaching out to local restaurants and saying ‘text in, call in,  tweet in’ use the hashtag #LocalLookoutDAE, and let’s spread the word on who is open for takeout and delivery,” said Jay Recher, who serves as a multisport reporter for the station, on top of being executive producer for the “Ron and Ian Show” weekdays 3-7pm. “Just any way we can give back to the community.”

There has been a bit of sports news to talk about in the Bay Area thanks to the Bucs.

“Thank God the Bucs got Tom Brady,” said Lane.

"To get Tom Brady, to get Rob Gronkowski, fans here are excited,” said Aaron Jacobson, co-host of the “Pat and Aaron Show”. “We have been talking about how there’s not much sports going on. Here in Tampa Bay, we have had so many pieces of good news.”

That good news has translated into hope for sports fans. That is something the DAE team preaches every day – Hope.

“We just have to be resilient and keep doing our job and doing what we have to do to serve the public,” said Recher.

“I think if we just stick by each other, be a little kinder to one another, more considerate to one another, I think we will make it through this just fine and that it what we try to convey on the radio every day – we try and deliver positive messages,” said Krasniqi.

Sports will return one day. And it will help heal our nation. Until that time WDAE is committed to not just talking X’s and O’s of a game, but also the X’s and O’s of life.
