TAMPA, Fla. — Baseball has been a huge part of Terry Lanier’s family’s life.

Recently, the St. Pete native had to dig into some old family baseball photos after a phone call he received back in April.

The Boca Ciega grad got a call from the St. Louis Cardinals informing him they would be inducting his dad, Max, into their Hall Of Fame.

Max Lanier pitched for the Cardinals back in the 30’s,40’s and 50's, winning two world series with the team and is in the top 20 in Cardinals history in four different categories. This weekend, he will be inducted into the team's Hall of Fame.

"I’m very proud of my dad, Terry said from his home in Crystal River. "He would be overwhelmed, but I think it’s well deserving for my dad to get this, he had a great career, he loved baseball, he loved the St. Louis Cardinals, and he loves his family."

His dad was Born in North Carolina and moved to St. Pete after his playing career to raise his four children and made a name for himself here outside of baseball.

Max owned a popular St. Pete restaurant called Max Lanier's Diamond Club, where famous ball players like Joe DiMaggio and other big stars would frequent when they were in town during spring training.

Terry, the youngest of four, never got to see his dad play in person. He was out of the game before he was born, but he did get the baseball bug, being inducted into a Hall of Fame himself after a successful high school career at Boca Ciega.

It was actually his older brother, Hal, who followed in his dad’s footsteps as an infielder with the San Francisco Giants for 10 years then as a manager for the Houston Astros in the late 80’s.

Max Lanier passed away in 2007 at the age of 91, but for Terry and his family his dad’s legacy will always live on. And on Sunday, the Lanier family will watch him take his place along side some of the greatest players in Cardinals history.
