TAMPA, Fla. — Researchers from the Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa got a financial boost Wednesday which will allow them to continue their efforts to prevent and cure the deadly disease.

The Kay Yow Cancer Fund gifted the facility with a $100,000 research grant.

The fund is named after the legendary women’s college basketball coach who died of breast cancer in 2009.

Before her death, Yow stipulated that each year, the fund must donate a grant to cancer research centers in cities hosting the Final Four Tournament.

“This is another specific piece that we hope will continue to make a significant difference in the lives of so many,” said Stephanie Glance, CEO of the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.

Tampa is the host of this year’s Women’s Final Four Championship.
