TEMPLE TERRACE, Fla. — One mother is calling her soon-to-be new home a dream-come-true, and it’s being built by volunteers through Habitat for Humanity for Hillsborough County.

  • Mom of 2 gets new home from Habitat for Humanity
  • Almost all women doing construction for the new home
  • The house should be complete by the middle of June

The project is the organization's third "Women Build." More than 170 women have raised just over $133,000 to build a home in Temple Terrace for Sabrina Belgrave.

The single mother of two boys has always had a dream of having her own house.

“We’ll be able to have a Christmas in our own home. Our own home. It’s stability, consistency. It’s just everybody’s dream, and this is one of my goals and my goal is coming true," Belgrave said.

The build is even more special for Belgrave, since it's almost all women doing the construction.

“We have some dudes here, but it’s like women empowering each other. We’re able to pick up a hammer as well just like men," Belgrave said.

Lisa Walker has volunteered for every "Women Build" and says she feels empowered working with so many women.

“It means we’ve come a long way in this society. A long, long way," Walker said.

Belgrave is also helping to build the home. On Saturday the roof was being built.

“I get to let my boys know, 'Mommy did that with the help of them, but I did that.' Kind of lets me get more hands on with my own home," she said.

The house should be complete by the middle of June.
