ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — An employee at Ferg's Sports Bar and Grille in St. Petersburg has contracted Hepatitis A, according to the owner of the restaurant, Mark Ferguson.

Ferguson said a dishwasher at the restaurant did not show up for work on April 13, and on April 18, the Department of Health contacted the restaurant saying that the employee had symptoms of Hepatitis A.

According to Ferguson, the health department asked for all records of who worked at what times, and also conducted an inspection of the building and interviewed the staff.

Ferguson said the health department cleared the restaurant to remain open after the inspection.  Although there were no other Hep A cases amongst the staff, the DOH encouraged the staff to get shots, which they did, according to Ferguson.

"We were proactive," Ferguson said. "The Department of Health was great to work with."
