POLK COUNTY, Fla. — A Polk County school damaged in Friday night's tornado will now be closed the rest of the week.

The school system said on social media that classes at Kathleen Middle School will resume Monday. Officials had originally targeted a Wednesday return.

Portable classrooms and bathrooms are being installed, although work to fully repair and renovate the school will take several months.

Pictures taken by Polk County Public Schools Superintendent Jacqueline Byrd after the storm showed ceiling tiles hanging from the ceiling, debris all over the floor, and water damage.

Computer labs and offices were also affected. The historic building on campus that was damaged by the tornado is where the eighth grade classrooms were housed. Those classes will be held in portable classrooms. The rest of the buildings on campus remained in good condition.
