ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Police say a man with a history of stalking his ex-wife stabbed and killed her daughter Friday and stabbed the ex-wife multiple times.

The St. Petersburg Police Department said the incident happened about noon at 22nd Avenue and 53rd Street.

"We know that the victims arrived home and were ambushed by the suspect, who attacked them with a knife," said the police department's Sandra Bentil.

The man was trying to leave the scene on a bicycle when he was arrested, police said. Stanley Jones, 52, is in custody.

Willie-Maynard Jones, his ex-wife, is being treated. Marqueita Maynard, her daughter, was pronounced dead.

Police said it was a "targeted attack."

Records show that Stanley Jones was arrested in February and charged with aggravated stalking.

Police say he spray-painted obscenities on his ex-wife's home and left 19 voice messages. He served seven months in jail, was released at the end of October and again began stalking the woman, police said.

He was charged Friday with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree Murder and burglary among other charges.

Officers closed 22nd Avenue North between 52nd St and 55rd Street during the investigation.
