ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The Andretti Autosports Indy Car that was in a tractor trailer that caught fire early Wednesday in St. Petersburg did not sustain heavy damage.

The semi carrying the car caught fire on southbound I-275 near Ulmerton Road.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, there were no injuries but traffic was limited to one lane for a while.

Troopers have not said what caused the fire, which remains under investigation.

The tractor trailer was transporting the race car to downtown St. Petersburg. The Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg is this weekend.

Officials said the truck was carrying one of the cars for Holling Racing, which is under Andretti Autosports.

Representatives for Andretti Autosports released a statement Wednesday:

"Damages to the 88 car appear to be minor and cosmetic, caused by heat, smoke and/or water. We have no current reason to believe that any competition or mechanical aspects of the 88 car have been damaged or compromised.

"Our Indy Lights team is in Florida for testing and is now in route to St. Pete to help evaluate and assess. Additionally, we are sending a team of INDYCAR crewman from Indianapolis to St. Pete today - in advance of the full team’s arrival tomorrow morning."
