Dozens of people came out to enjoy the beautiful weather at Crump's on Thursday, the first day they officially reopened.

“We really enjoy it, getting out here by the river and watch all the boats,” said customer Daran Williams.

In July 2019, the tiki hut at Crump's caught on fire. Fire officials believe the fire was caused by a propane tank.

Since then, they’ve been working to rebuild. They are thrilled to finally be back open.

“We’ve made some cosmetic changes as far as making it look a little bit nicer," said front of house manager Don Hamberg. "We’ve changed a couple of things on the menu, but not a whole lot."

COVID-19 has also caused them to make some changes like spacing out tables, wiping down menus and chairs after use, and not seating at the bar.

As they worked to reopen, the staff said it was the support from the community that really kept them going.

Local businesses like Kims Café and Seagrass Waterfront and Tiki Bar held fundraisers not long after the fire to help Crump's employees.

Now, the staff said they’re eager to return the favor.

“People have just kind of come around and asked, 'can we do something? What can we do to help?' and it’s been a great thing and now we’re ready to take care of them all,” Hamberg explained.

Hamberg also said a lot of their staff had moved on since the fire, but about 15-20 percent of their current staff was with them before the fire.
