After gathering on the steps of City Hall, protesters took to the streets, marching toward the police station chanting, “No justice, no peace.”

Protesters said this is where they had to be.

“If you continue to sit back because you have that privilege as a white person and it’s not going to affect you like it would a person of color, I mean, you’re on the side of the oppressor at that point,” said Libby Jourdan, one of the protesters.

The protest in St. Petersburg, which remained peaceful, was just one of the protests taking place across the country.

Former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, who was seen in a video with his knee on Floyd’s neck, has since been charged with third-degree murder and manslaughter.
