CITRUS COUNTY, Fla. — A pilot was killed Wednesday morning in Citrus County when his small plane crashed.

According to the Citrus County Sheriff's Office, the single-engine plane went down just before 8 a.m. on South Woodwind Point near the Inverness airport. The crash did cause a small fire.

The single occupant of the plane died, authorities said. 

The FAA is taking over the investigation.
