Deputies responded to an area at Hicks Road and Akers Lane at about 1:20 p.m. to a domestic violence-related stabbing. When deputies entered the house, they found a man who was holding a woman at knifepoint.

The woman had been stabbed more than 15 times before deputies arrived, the Sheriff’s Office said. In an afternoon news conference, Pasco Sheriff Chris Nocco said the woman was covered in blood “like a horror movie.”

Deputies repeatedly ordered the man to drop the knife, Nocco said. Instead of dropping the knife, the man made movements toward the injured woman. That’s when deputies fired shots at the man. The man was hit, but his condition was not released.

Deputies then provided aid to the injured woman before paramedics arrived. She was transported to a hospital as “trauma alert.” The woman told deputies the man had held her against her will all day.

No deputies were injured in the incident.

Florida Department of Law Enforcement is leading the investigation into the deputy-involved shooting. Deputies were wearing body cameras but authorities say state law prevents the footage from being publicly released since the shooting happened inside a residence.
