CITRUS COUNTY, Fla. — Greg Pelletier hasn’t worn his military uniforms in years.

“It’s kind of like I don’t know if I want to get rid of them you know,” he said. Pelletier served a term in the United States Air Force and was deployed for Iraqi Freedom in 2002.

“After 9/11, I just felt like I had to do something," Pelletier said. "I had talked about it when I was 18 also, but then after 9/11, I just said I gotta do something.”

After being medically retired in 2007, Pelletier wanted to help out in a different way.

“I just said I needed to do something with my time now, so I said, 'Well I’ll help the vets out with what I can do.' And once I moved to Citrus County, I got involved with a lot of the veteran organizations and it just grew from there,” he said.

With the help of generous donors, he collects gently used items that he will deliver to veterans through the county.

“This would be very helpful. I mean, some of that clothes and stuff helps huge. Like she said, she had a blanket in there. That’s humongous, especially this time of year. If we have somebody homeless out in the woods, they’re definitely going to need a blanket this time of year, so that’ll be huge,” Pelletier explained.

He said this is a small act for those he believes deserve so much after their hard work and sacrifice.

“It’s a sense of helping somebody out and knowing you are making a difference. It feels good,” he said.

Pelletier runs the group "The Bridge 4 Veterans" in Citrus County. The group is made up of volunteers who search for homeless veterans and help them secure food, water and shelter.
