TAMPA, Fla. — Orlando Gudes has no plans to resign.

Gudes, the Tampa City Council Chairman, is holding his ground amid a growing chorus of calls for him to step down. Gudes is facing accusations of inappropriate treatment towards a former aide.

The aide who filed harassment complaints against Gudes has hired legal representation. They plan to issue a statement publicly Thursday, the same day city council meets.

But her attorney did issue a written statement that in part says: "If he were to resign it would likely save the City and taxpayers protracted litigation costs and it would allow the victims an immediate avenue to begin the healing process.

Two of Gudes colleagues, Luis Viera and Joseph Citro, have publicly stated they feel Gudes should give up his seat.

Both saying they read the city's 60 page report- which outlines Gudes’ alleged behavior.

"All city employees should not have to work in a hostile environment, especially our female employees,” Citro said. “Under what I’ve read and I’ve read the whole 60 pages, I think it would be best for the city of Tampa, the citizens and for all employees for councilman Gudes to resign."

Viera released this statement in part saying quote "no person who behaves with women as is detailed in this report should hold public office, much less chair city council."

Since Gudes, 54, is an elected official, he's not subject to city discipline regarding employee workplace behavior.

State law allows Gov. Ron DeSantis to suspend and, potentially, remove Gudes from his seat.

Mayor Jane Castor’s spokesperson Adam Smith said no one in the administration has asked the governor to remove Gudes.

DeSantis’ office says the matter is under review.
