ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — St. Petersburg police continue to investigate the deaths of a father and son which appears to be a murder-suicide.

According to officials, the bodies of 44-year-old Kevin Bybee and his 9-year-old son Andres Chateau were found Monday at the Trellis at the Lakes apartments.

Police said the child's mother stopped by on Sunday evening to pick up her son. He had spent the weekend with his father, 44-year-old Kevin Bybee.

Bybee did not answer the door or his phone. So the mother called the police.

When officers arrived, they say they had no reason to believe the child was in danger, at the time.

On Monday, the boy's mother was concerned again so she contacted the apartment's management.

Police say that's when a manager opened the door to a tragic scene, finding the father and son dead from gunshot wounds.

St. Pete police say the couple was in the middle of a custody dispute, but there had been no threats or signs beforehand that it would get to this point.
