PASCO COUNTY, Fla. — Keep Pasco Beautiful will clean up garbage and debris near waterways on Wednesday as part of World Ocean Day.

What You Need To Know

It’s an effort to keep garbage from making its way into local waterways, and also raise awareness about how much garbage can drain into the water daily.

“We will be picking up probably hundreds of pounds of litter from little bottles to little pieces of plastic that will ultimately contaminate our waters,” said Kristen King, coordinator of Keep Pasco Beautiful.

Seventy-five volunteers are expected to walk routes near waterways and drainage areas with plastic gloves and a keen eye for garbage like plastic and bottles that can cause major issues for marine wildlife and birds.

To participate in the cleanup, Keep Pasco Beautiful says to arrive before 4 p.m. for the two-hour cleanup running from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The cleanup leaves from Ordinance One at 5738 Main St. in New Port Richey.

All gloves and supplies will be provided for volunteers.
