TAMPA — How you get there in 2019 especially in Hillsborough County was supposed to see major changes because of the 2018 voter approved All for Transportation Tax.

The tax is still being collected but not put to use because of a lawsuit.

Nevertheless, there was other big news in transportation.

The biggest story by far is the advent of micro-mobility.

Tampa launched its e-scooter program in May. The pilot program has seen ups and downs.

While popular with high ridership all over south Tampa, the community has dealt with issues such as the devices often left blocking streets and some causing accidents.

Officials in St. Petersburg, Clearwater and New Port Richey all voted to launch their own pilot programs next year.

Another big story was that the Tampa Bay Area Regional Transit Authority or TBARTA has given the go ahead of a feasibility study on Hyperloop.

The transportation of the future is supposed to move masses at speeds faster than anything.

It is still just an idea — what's more important is who is behind it — Richard Branson of Brightline-Virgin Trains USA.

He's partnered with Hyperloop and Brightline.

The Tampa Bay Business Journal reported the state also extended a negotiation period with Virgin Trains to explore the high-speed rail connection from Orlando to Tampa along Interstate 4.

Virgin Trains has also said they're looking at a stop at Disney which would then connect to Tampa.

Other big stories on the road involved FDOT’s announcement of a $1.4 billion Westshore Interchange project.

The City of Tampa also passed a major infrastructure bill to replace its sewer system.

While it'll take 20 years to complete, the project will not only replace underground pipes. Roads will also be repaved.
