TAMPA, Fla. — Prosecutors have dropped charges against former Buccaneers wide receiver Antonio Brown.

The arrest warrant for Brown on a charge of domestic violence is no longer active.

What You Need To Know

According to Tampa police, the warrant was issued for Brown, 34, after a verbal altercation at a home in south Tampa on Nov. 28. The warrant states that the incident became physical when the suspect threw a shoe at the victim. Officials also said in the warrant that Brown attempted to evict the victim from the residence and locked her out of the home.

Police officials said the department pursued and granted a warrant for Brown’s arrest, repeatedly attempted to arrest him at his home and arranged for Brown to turn himself in through his attorney.

Department officials also said in a statement it stands behind its decision to investigate the case, even taking multiple steps to assist the victim of the alleged abuse.

The investigation included hours of on-scene interviews with the victim, contacting Child Protective Investigations (CPI) for the safety and well-being of the children involved and offering the victim services from a domestic abuse victim shelter.

The department also applied for a temporary risk protection order for her due to comments she made regarding Brown’s mental state and his possession of guns. The order was later denied by a judge.

Brown was released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after he jogged off the field against the New York Jets last season, displaying erratic behavior, including throwing his shirt and gloves into the stands.

Brown, who helped the Buccaneers win the 2020 Super Bowl, has not played for another team since.
